Big Idea: Porter's 5 Forces

Porter's 5 Forces is an excellent tool to establish whether you will or won't succeed in a new fundraising approach. The argument goes that when you consider entering a market, or launching a fundraising initiative, you need to think about five forces or challenges.

Essentially, the 5 Forces model asks you a series of questions about the abilities of your organisation, and those of your competitors. The answers to the questions help you map what you would need in order to enter a specific fundraising market successfully – e.g. DRVT.

They can also highlight the challenges you face if you decide you want to exit from a current channel – for example, selling your chain of underperforming shops.

The download below explains Porter's 5 Forces and =mc's application of the tool to fundraising.
