At the moment
In and amongst a number of performance management programmes I am doing a lot of work with managers developing their coaching skills at WWF, Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership and recently the National Austistic Society. This is certainly a hot topic at the moment and something both the managers and ultimately their teams benefit greatly from.
Back in the office I'm working on the design of some tailored performance management and leadership development programmes for organisations in the arts, sciences and media. Much of the focus is on making sure managers have the tools and techniques, plus the confidence, to have some of the more difficult conversations with people they manage. For example, I'm helping the MS Society are roll out a series of programmes to support their managers in putting their new HR policies and procedures into practice.
Before =mc
Before joining =mc I worked in a number of quite different roles, but all of these have contributed to where I am today. This included working as a windsurfing and sailing instructor abroad, which really developed my skills in teaching adults!
My interest in the not-for-profit sector was sparked by a role with a professional orchestra, where I managed the concerts and education events. This gave me a real insight into the mechanics of a not-for-profit organisation, particularly the financial side.
My specific experience as a learning and development consultant has come from working in a very similar role in a research based leadership development organisation. Although this was a commercial consultancy I had the opportunity to work with a number of leading INGO's including Amnesty International and UNICEF, as well as corporates such as the Royal Bank of Scotland.
At =mc I'm relishing the opportunity to work on leading edge design and delivery methods with fascinating customers.
