Re-imagining International NGOs
How business models, structure and management are changing for international charities
Overview
This interactive seminar will examine the changing face of International NGOs. It will offer key insights and challenges to best practice and emerging trends in how International NGOs see their future.
With senior representatives from some of the UK's most influential INGOs, we identify what new organisational structures and approaches are emerging in the world of UK-based INGOs.
The event is based on findings from a major piece of =mc research commissioned by Sightsavers and WaterAid, we reveal how 13 of the largest international charities are organising themselves in terms of organisational structure and governance.
The data set for this major research project includes:
- Amnesty International - CARE International UK - Save the Children Alliance - Sightsavers International - HelpAge International - Plan International UK
| - ActionAid International - Christian Aid - WaterAid - Oxfam - CAFOD - VSO |

The seminar will be driven by research and case studies from INGOs. Running from 1.30pm-5.30pm, the afternoon will involve plenaries, panel discussions, followed by an informal drinks reception. The sessions are designed to tackle five key issues that have emerged from the research: - New business models for INGOs: how can INGOs fund future development and create real sustainability in themselves and their partners?
- Reframing alliances and partnerships: how are current networks and the need to co-operate with business, governments and emerging South partners impacting on governance and organisational processes?
- North-South decision-making: should UK-based INGOs reconsider their relationship with the South? What has been the impact and what are the implications of ActionAid's move to South Africa?
- New organisational models: how do new emerging models compare with the existing? How will these newer models affect the way senior management teams and boards are structured?
- Lessons from the private sector: what can we learn from the way international commercial organisations deal with corporate restructures, mergers and strategic reviews?
