We are pleased to announce two new additions to the =mc Learning and Development team: Philippa Graham and Yvette Gyles. We asked them a few questions to get a bit of background information as an introduction.
I was a corporate fundraising manager for Alzheimer’s Society for four years, where I launched a number of large cross team projects, managed their Corporate Accounts team and raised funds with organisations such as Tesco, KPMG and Home Retail Group. Before that I spent five years at performance development consultancy Lane4, where I worked in marketing and event management.
I was the HR Manager for the Overseas Development Institute for just under 3 years. Before that I spent several years in HR at Allen & Overy LLP. In both these roles, I’ve always had a Learning and Development element to my role and have really enjoyed delivering workshops and one-to-one coaching.
I came across the Management Centre as a delegate on one of their management programmes. I remember being impressed by the professionalism of the trainers and the culture and ethics of the organisation. I became an accredited coach five years ago, and had always been keen to return to people development. Excellent management of self and others is essential in the not for profit sector, when time and budget restrictions are a constant challenge. The prospect of working across so many valuable organisations, and helping them with those challenges is very exciting.
I had met several of the L&D consultants from the Management centre in my role at ODI, and I’d always enjoyed working with them as a customer. I’d been on a course or two myself, and was really impressed with the learning from those. I’d been considering a move into L&D for a long time and so when I saw a role come up I applied immediately. I’m really excited about this new challenge.
In the New Year I will be supporting teams from WWF, ActionAid and the Fairtrade Foundation, helping them with their Project Management skills, and co-facilitating the Management Centre’s open programmes for emerging managers and developing leaders in March.
I will be working on a range of open programme training courses for the Management Centre’s Learning and Development arm, which gives me the opportunity to work with various organisations and staff at different levels.
