There isn’t a typical working week at =mc. In any given week you can be involved in delivering a one-off training day, interviewing stakeholders for a piece of consultancy, facilitating a team away day, pitching for a leadership programme or holding telephone calls to scope out training needs.
Below Assistant Director Yvette Gyles offers a snapshot of how a Learning & Development Consultant’s diary may look.

10.30 Call with Amanda
|
A catch up call has been booked with a regular customer. We’ll be talking about recent programmes – what has gone well, what we think needs to change. And looking at dates for more programmes. A very positive start to the week. |
12.30 Picnic Monday | With consultants out delivering training or visiting customers, we have to work hard at bringing everyone together. Every month we all sit down together and have a picnic. Some bake, some buy. We all eat. And we often use this for knowledge sharing too. |
13.30 – 16.00 L&D Team Meeting | Our monthly team meeting. We share updates on our current programmes and customers. We look ahead to what is coming up and also discuss various marketing initiatives we’re working on. It’s a great way to check in with each other – sharing news and views. We take it in turn to chair and take minutes. |

Leadership Programme – design and development
|
This is the design element of a modular leadership programme. I’m tailoring the programme and tools we use to make it really work for them. I’ll be producing training packs and materials ready for the customer to approve.
|
16.30 – leave to get train | The next day I’m delivering training in Manchester, so I’m heading off to get the train. |

Introduction to Management Day 1
08.30 set up; programme begins at 09.30
|
This is a stand alone two day programme. I need to arrive early to the venue and make sure the tables / chairs are all sorted. The box of materials should have arrived safely, so I’ll be unpacking that too. It’s a fantastic programme, based on our Emerging Managers content. I’m really excited about this. |

Introduction to Management Day 2
17.30 – taxi booked to take back to the station |
The group were lovely so it will be another nice day with them. Some interesting conversations happening about changes at the organisation and how to manage this. We’re due to finish at 17.00. |

BY 15.00 – weekly reports
|
A day with no meetings. A great opportunity to get some writing done, prepare for next weeks training, and catch up with customers. I must get my weekly reporting done, but otherwise the day is flexible. I’ll be picking up calls from customers too as and when they come in. |
