Aspiring Managers Programme

Supporting future managers to grow

This programme has been specially designed to help individuals thinking about making their first step into a people management role. It provides a space for participants to reflect and explore what people management is all about and whether this is a role they aspire to.

This highly practical learning combines a self-directed approach with two sessions. Participants are introduced to practical tools and techniques in essential management skills and are then encouraged to practice these approaches through structured on-the-job learning activities between sessions. Development is supported by a comprehensive learning journal that participants work through during the programme, and they are provided with a series of models and frameworks to structure their thinking.

All our public training is scheduled when enough demand is there, so please register your interest here, and we'll let you know as soon as a new date is set.
Yes, and also face to face. It is particularly suited to two half-day workshops rather than one full-day (though this is available). This enables participants to try new approaches and engage in reflective practice between sessions. For more information on the differences between online and face to face training, visit our Learning and Development page.
If you have 5 or more people to train it's worth getting in touch to discuss in-house options. These include:
  • your choice of structure – as well as choosing dates to suit you, you can also decide whether to have the content delivered online or in person i.
  • tailoring options – if you're looking to focus on particular elements of the programme, we can look into this. We can also make sure this programme connects to other management development offers you have available to your teams.
In order to make sure your in-house training needs are met, the best way to start this process is with a conversation (for free of course). Contact us online or call 020 7978 1516 to speak to one of our experienced consultants.

This tailored programme, available in-house only, gives you the opportunity to invest in your people and will be adapted to support your succession planning and talent development approach. Ultimately the programme will help your employees to understand what is means for them to become a manager, while giving them the opportunity to assess their strengths and areas for development. They will therefore be more ready when opportunities arise, to make that transition.

Who is the programme for?

This programme is designed for individuals who are not currently managing but have aspirations to be a people manager in their future. It is the ideal development opportunity for people that an organisation has identified as potential future managers.

(For new managers just starting in position or about to start, we recommend our Emerging Managers programme instead).

Outcomes for you and your organisation

After completing the programme, led by a skilled =mc consultant, participants will be able to:

  • understand the role of a manager and what makes an effective people manager
  • carry out a management self-assessment
  • identify key considerations when bringing teams together
  • learn how to give and receive constructive behavioural feedback
  • understand how people learn and what the key stages of development are
  • use emotional intelligence to diagnose the development needs of yourself and others
  • complete an action plan to support your ongoing learning journey

Learning approaches

This is a highly practical and reflective programme, using a range of approaches to explore management in practice with high-level trainer input. It combines:

  • theories, tools, practical advice and examples suited to the not-for-profit sector
